From The Athletic Director

11/30/20 Athletic Update:

Yorktown Middle School wanted to update you on our athletic event protocols for the upcoming Winter sports season here at YMS.

In conjunction with information provided by our state and local officials, we are taking all the necessary precautions to ensure the safest possible environment for our student-athletes, coaches, event personnel, and families at our home athletic events. It is important that our YMS and visiting communities adhere to the parameters detailed below. These protocols are subject to change.

  1. Until further notice, only 4 spectators per athlete will be allowed to attend athletic events held at YMS. We also ask that spectators leave immediately after their athlete is finished competing and return at the end of the event to pick them up.
  2. We ask that all spectators pre-screen themselves before coming to the event. If anyone in the family is experiencing symptoms consistent with Covid-19 or has been in recent close contact with someone with a confirmed case, please stay home.
  3. Visiting team cheerleaders are NOT permitted to attend.
  4. Ticketing: Tickets are $5 and will be sold at the door. We accept cash only. There are no pre-sale or digital ticketing options at this time.
  5. Social distancing guidelines must be followed by all in attendance in all areas to the greatest extent possible. There will be designated seating areas marked in our bleachers and signage throughout our facilities reminding spectators to spread out. Certain rows of bleachers may be off limits to ensure proper distancing amongst spectators.
  6. All spectators and essential event personnel are required to wear masks while attending any of our events.
  7. Hand sanitizer will be available at various spots throughout our facilities.
  8. Only pre-packaged items will be sold at our concession stand.

We thank you for your understanding, partnership, and support with these efforts. We want to give our student-athletes and coaches the best possible chance at continuing to do what they love. This is not possible without your cooperation and compliance. We understand these circumstances are not ideal and create some inconveniences, however
we feel that we must take these necessary steps to ensure the safety of our athletes and staff.

Thank you,

Dustin Moody, YMS Athletic Director

Update on November 4th:

Parents and Athletes,

As we move into the Winter Athletic Season, we are making a few changes to our athletic procedures.

First, ticket prices for all home events will be $5.00. This change mirrors the schools in our county and will help us provide equipment for our programs that is much needed.

Next, we are still dealing with changes and restrictions due to COVID-19. Events will be capped at a maximum capacity of 250 people. We are currently considering our attendance at games and will be coming to a determination on what fan attendance will look like this winter. That information will be available soon.

Thank you all and we look forward to seeing you at our winter events!

-Dustin Moody

Update on October 13th:

Parents and Athletes,

We are excited to begin phasing back our WINTER sports soon. Please remember that this will be for students interested in participating in WINTER sports only:  Boys/Girls Basketball, Boys/Girls Swim, Wrestling, Cheerleading.

Before all tryouts or workouts, we will check athletes in and make sure they have an IHSAA Physical on file (last years will work for 7th and 8th Graders but all incoming 6th Graders will need to complete a physical and turn it in to the office before being allowed to participate in any capacity) or collect their new physical at that time. In addition every athlete must bring their IHSAA Health History Update IHSAA 2020-21 Health History Update and Consent and Release (remember if you answered yes to any of the IHSAA 7 questions, you must get a new 2020-21 IHSAA Physical: 2020-21-IHSAA-Physical-Form1.

Athletes participating in workouts must wear a mask to and from any athletic activity. They will be allowed to take masks off during vigorous activity. Also, athletes need to bring WATER. This cannot be stressed enough. Due to construction, there might be issues with our water at times.

Also make sure you self-screen your athlete prior to sending each day. Our protocols for screening are in the Sports Re-Entry Protocol Yorktown Community Schools Return to Sports Re-entry Protocol. If your athlete exhibits any symptoms, they need to stay home and reference the 2 new additional documents from the Delaware County Board of Health that speaks to symptoms and returning: School Screening symptoms flyer and Student Guidance for Return to School-Activities. It is critical that YOU DO NOT allow your athlete to attend if they are not feeling well.
